Do you remember your favorite Christmas present? For many of us it is not hard to think of the Nintendo game system or the Red Ryder BB gun. But, what if there were no presents to remember? For many local families, this is an all too real reality each year. That’s why we’re proud to lend our community support with organizations in our area that are truly making a difference in bettering our community. Read on as we take a look at one such organization that has been serving our community for the past 68 years.

SBMC Making a Real Difference in the Community

According to the US Census Bureau, more than 15% of Jacksonville residents live below the national poverty level. For these families, there may not be a budget remaining for Christmas presents.

For years, the Southside Business Men’s Club (SBMC) has served the Jacksonville community in part by making sure children have a favorite Christmas present. Tech Support Jax is proud to support SBMC, Florida’s oldest business and civic organization, for their community service each year, like the Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree. Partnering with local Target stores, SBMC selects 30-35 families and sends them on a $100 shopping spree. Even better, they recruit children to buy gifts for their parents, so that children enjoy Christmas as a time to celebrate gifts given and received. One child wrote a thank you note to SBMC amazed that she got to spend $100 for herself and for her family. A family whose kids participated in the shopping spree wrote back to say they could not find words to describe their happiness at SBMC’s spirit of giving during the Christmas season.

In addition to the Children’s Christmas Shopping Spree, SBMC participates in one of our region’s largest Veterans Day Parades. The annual SBMC float in the parade has been recognized by Jacksonville city officials. Our local military veterans deserve to be celebrated for their service to our country and our community. One way Tech Support Jax proudly honors our veterans is by supporting organizations like SBMC.

Finally, SBMC presents annual awards to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office members for outstanding community service. Law enforcement members who serve with dignity and respect should be honored. Tech Support Jax is proud to be affiliated with a group like SBMC that prioritizes serving the community of Jacksonville.

Volunteer Opportunities in Jacksonville with SBMC

SBMC raises money through fundraiser events for scholarships like the Junior ROTC scholarship and the Youth Achiever Program scholarship. All in, SBMC will be giving away $45,000 in scholarships this year.

Tech Support Jax is proud to be facilitating behind the scenes as a VP and also sponsoring this year’s YAP April Cookout. The Cookout is an annual event SBMC puts on to raise money for area 5th grade safety patrols to be able to visit Washington, D.C. We are also proud to be a hole sponsor for YAP’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Proceeds for the tournament help fund scholarships and other initiatives for the YAP.
